ElizaBeth MurrAy Shapes
Artistic Statement:
I made my painting so that it could be fit together into a collaboration of pieces. The first step in the design was cutting my shape out of cardboard. The second step in my painting was deciding what colors to use to make my shape fit together with the other pieces. My third step was actually painting both sides of the cardboard to turn it into the painting you see above. The pieces meaning to me is in the designs, because I based it of multiple ancient symbols in Egyptian and Greek mythologies. The middle shape is the symbol for the Egyptian figure Osiris and the box outside is part of the symbol for Hermes.

Project 2: Smart Glasses
Artistic Statement:
I made my smart glasses to be a model of an invention that could serve a functional purpose. The first step was using recycled computer components to build to power and memory systems. The second step was purchasing sunglasses to attach the computer components to work as a screen. The third step was bring all the pieces together and painting it all. And my last step was printing out a downloading bar and attaching them to the lens to make it look as if the glasses worked. The piece means something to me because the next Generation technology is something that I am very interested in.

Project 3: Southern pride
Artist Statement:
I made my collage to show some of the attributes of the South. My first step was to design something that had meaning to me and draw a basic sketch. The second step was to get some cardboard and paint it with gesso. The third step in my project was to get different scraps of painted paper and put them together in a collage. My last step in this project was to paint the rest of the collage to make it look nicer. The piece means something to me because of it reminds me of my favorite places and the way that I was raised.

Project 4: Patriotic Symbolism
Artist Statement:
I made my activism collage to show respect to the symbol of freedom and those who died for it. My first step was to decide what issue meant a lot to me and design a poster that reflected my opinion of the issue. My second step in completing this project was to paint the pieces I used to create the whole collage and then I put the pieces together with a gel medium. My third step was to decide where I would hang my collage so that everyone could see it and formulate an opinion. My last step was to actually hang my collage and listen to what people said. This piece reminds me of how many times I have had to go without my dad and to me means freedom and respect because of how many people die for the right to live free and hang that flag.
